How to Choose a Realtor (in Seattle)

How to choose a realtor

So you live in Seattle (or anywhere else in the country) and are looking for help in selling your house. But – how to choose a realtor?

Picking someone who is right for you is of the utmost importance. Whether you’re buying your first home or selling your 10th home – trust and communication are crucial when choosing which agent should represent you. The transaction should be transparent and your agent should provide a clear process for buying or selling your home.

Communication Style

Before you begin with the process, sit down with your prospective realtor. You want to determine if their style of communication is similar to yours. Do they communicate in the same manner? If you don’t often check your email, and they don’t text, it won’t be a good fit.

Your realtor needs to be able to fully explain the home buying process. You need to be comfortable with them to fully understand the steps. Always ask questions if you don’t understand everything completely. It will be of vital importance to your entire experience.

Local Expertise

While this Forbes article lists many more great tips on how to choose a realtor, they did omit one I think is vital: location expertise.

Pick a realtor who is an expert in the area you are looking to buy or sell. They will know your prospective city or cities like the back of their hand, and have intel on neighborhoods, city services, schools and proximity to emergency services.
